SECKE Choir Sharing Festival

_When:  May 8 and 9, 2012 (Tuesday and Wednesday)

Where:  University Center, The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga

Fees:  $65 per 15-minute slot.  Directors who are members of OAKE pay only $50.  All fees are non-refundable.  Choirs not affiliated with a school are also welcome to participate.

Rules and procedures (downloadable PDF below)

Size of choir:  not to exceed 80 singers

Prerecorded accompaniments are not allowed.  Each director must secure an accompanist other than himself/herself.  We recommend contacting the UTC Music Department if you need help in securing an accompanist. (423.425.4601)

Each chorus will be scheduled for a 15-minute slot during which they will perform two selections, one of which must come from the Choir Sharing repertoire list.  Three short works may be performed, as long as the 15 minutes is not exceeded.  Any remaining time in a performance slot may be used by a judge to work with your group.  The other judge will use this time to continue making comments on the performance.

Music for the judges is to be handed in just prior to your performance.  Two 9x12 envelopes should be prepared, each bearing the group name and director and containing one copy of each selection you intend to perform.  PLEASE NUMBER EACH MEASURE IN EACH PIECE.

PHOTOCOPIES WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.  The exception to this rule is a case where a selection from a music text or from the Juilliard Repertory Library is being used.  These copies will be destroyed after the festival.

Each judge will make positive, constructive comments on paper as he/she listens to the performance.

Each group will be scheduled for a warm-up room 15 minutes prior to its performance.

It is important that each person in the audience sit quietly and practice good concert manners.  We suggest having at least one other adult attend with your group.  Please understand, though, that we do want to encourage your group to be present to hear other choruses before and after your own performance.  Time to listen to other choirs is just as important to the development of your singers as time to perform.

The groups that have performed in a particular hour will combine into a mass choir of about four groups.  One of the judges will work with them for 15 minutes on the assigned piece (memorized before they come.)  The mass choir will perform from their seats.
